Now that the festivities are kicking in we are in the mood for a spicy holiday scent that lingers thru out our home. Cinnamon is always been a good earthy and warm scent that we can count on for a delightful evening so here are our picks with this spicy scent:

  Origins Flowers in the Rosa genus belong to the Rosaceae family, which includes more than 20,000 cultivars of the world's most popular cut flowers--commonly called roses. These timelessly beautiful blooms originated more than 4,000 years ago, growing in the fertile land between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers in the Middle East. Today, roses come in many shapes, sizes and colors, including three popular types: sweetheart, spray and tea.

  Availability and Vase Life Because of their widespread cultivation, roses are available in many different colors and sizes year-round. Vase life ranges from 6-12 days, depending on the cultivar and the care-andhandling quality.

  Care and Handling Remove any leaves that will fall below the water line. Then provide a fresh underwater cut about one inch from the stems' base. Place them in a fresh flower-food solution, which will provide nourishment and prevent bacterial growth. Cut rose stems under water and add fresh flower food to vases.

  Design Uses Roses are versatile flowers, often associated with romance and elegance. They make beautiful vase arrangements and singlestem gifts. They're often used in bridal bouquets, corsages and boutonnieres, and other special-occasion arrangements. Their broad appeal is enhanced by the wide variety of rose colors and styles available on today's market.

•  Narcissus:

  Origins Narcissus is the broad botanical term for the flowers most consumers would call daffodils, narcissuses and paperwhites. The term daffodil is generally used to refer to single, trumpet-shaped flowers, while paperwhites refers to the tiny white flowers that grow in clusters. The term narcissus typically refers to the remaining varieties. These cheery spring bulb flowers come in a variety of colors, sizes and shapes, including white, cream, yellow, orange and bicolor. They're members of the Amaryllidaceae family, and are named for Narcissus, a youth in Greek mythology who fell in love with his own reflection and was transformed by the gods into a flower. Narcissuses are native to Europe, North America and western Asia.

  Availability and Vase Life November through April. 3-6 days.

  Care and Handling Cut 1/4 inch off stems and place in 70-75 F water with bulb flower preservative. Place daffodils in a separte holing container from other flowers, as they secrete a sap which shortens the vase life of other cut flowers, especially tulips. The sap will stop flowing about 6 hours after the stems are cut. Daffodils can then be safely comibed with other flowers and used in mixed arrangements.

  Design Uses Daffodils are attractive in bouquets by themselves or mixed spring arrangements. When placing in floral foam, wrap a thin-gauge wire continuously around the stam at the base. This gives soft-stemmed blossoms support for insertion into the foam.

• Peony:

  Meaning Shame; Happy Life; Happy Marriage

  Origins Peony is the common name for approximately 33 species of flowers in the Paeonia genus, which belongs to the Ranunculaceae family. The flowers are native to Europe, Asia and North America, and are among the most popular garden flowers.

  Availability and Vase Life March through June. 5-7 days.

  Care and Handling Petals should be kept dry as they are prone to mold. Peonies are wilt sensitive, so avoid prolonged periods out of water.

  Design Uses These fragrant, massive flowers work well alone in a bouquet or mixed arrangement. The thin stems may require wiring or other support for the heavy heads. Leave room in a design for blooms to open fully.

Named after Simpatico Shores, a gathering of family cottages on beautiful Big Platte Lake near Honor in Northern Michigan. Friends and family spent long summer days laughing and living together, reading field guides and pouring over reference books. We found our inspiration in nature, love, and reminiscence. These inspirations are the foundation of the Simpatico line, “Keeping us connected.” Made with fine ingredients, a bit of surprise and nostalgia. Hand crafted in the U.S.A.

• STEM: A blend of muguet, arugula and tarragon create the lush green body of this scent. We’ve added black pepper and sandalwood to balance this rare and piquant composition.
